Masterwork Polychrome Clock Tower

Spectacular tramp art polychrome King George V mantle clock festooned with animals, carved roses, coins in maple leafs, and soldiers. An English flag and Union Jack surround a photograph of King George V on its crest. It came from Welland, Ontario. It commemorates the 25 years of the reign of George V as British monarch from 1910 to 1935. The clock won second place at the Canadian National Exhibition craft show in 1935. Marks were deducted because the animals are cast, not carved!

Olga, Headless Girl Carnival Banner

This was from one of the most famous carnival acts that traveled around the country. The headless woman was accomplished with a magic trick using mirrors. The woman was able to move her arms and legs as the astonished audience saw surreal tubes coming out of her neck and going into machines and a glass of water. The painting on canvas is stamped Nieman, who was one of the leading carnival banner makers in Chicago opening his studio in 1931.
