One of New York’s quieter art fairs is Metro Curates. The fair asks each of the participating galleries to exhibit either a single artist or a themed show. The result is an intimate and thoughtful show were one happens across unusual works from a range of genres. Ethnographic and American folk art mingle with modern and contemporary pieces. We picked out a few extra special gems to look for at the fair. It runs January 22-25 at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea.

Ever since Jack Lenor Larsen, Inc. was established in 1952, the influence of its innovative, farseeing founder has permeated the field of interior design. Ranging from filmy casement cloths to plush upholstery, from the formal geometry of complex doubleweave to the freshness of colorful organic prints, Larsen textiles have enhanced walls and floors of large company headquarters, educational institutions, jet planes, and private homes.
